⭐Nerikiri⭐
Nerikiri is a confectionery that has been handed down from ancient times in Japan. Originally, the word “confectionery” was used to refer to fruit. The word “confectionery” was originally used to refer to fruits, which is why fruits are called “mizugashi”. In the days when sugar was very expensive, sweets were very precious and were eaten only on special occasions such as ceremonies and celebrations. After that, sugar gradually became popular, but it remained a rare commodity.
In the early Edo period (1603–1868), sugar was produced from sugar cane, and the culture of wagashi (Japanese sweets) developed dramatically as the history of warfare ended and people had more time to enjoy sweets. Especially in Kyoto, where there were many cultural figures and tea masters, many beautiful looking wagashi were created, and among them, the wagashi called “konashi” was created through the steaming process. It is said that the Kanto version of konashi is called nerikiri.
